New Gallery added to the website!

So… One of a couple of new galleries coming to the site in the next couple of weeks.

It has been a pretty amazing week around this part of the world for watching the Northern Lights, or Aurora… After spending about 3 hours in the middle of the night out in Kananaskis Country last Sunday night with Leah of Altitude Art and being treated to an amazing show, there was a repeat showing on Tuesday night. While we were able to get far enough west on Sunday night to rid ourselves of the light pollution of Calgary, we placed ourselves intentionally behind a couple of peaks in an attempt to create a beautiful foreground and base for our light show. Unfortunately, on that night a huge portion of the show was low on the horizon, and hence hidden behind the mountains. Still some amazing displays between about 1 am and about 2:30 before things quieted down…

Tuesday night was a completely different display… Unfortunately for me, I was unable to leave Okotoks to view them that night as the alarm was going to go off regardless – you know, those little obligations like a job – so set up in the back yard and hoped for the best. While the lights of Calgary to the north certainly impacted the scene, in some cases the pink and orange glow contrasted kinda nicely with the intense green of the aurora. Looking up into the light cloud cover, you could actually see the solar wind ripping across the sky as the lights swept rapidly through the cloud, creating an amazing show that I have never seen before. I finally called it quits about 12:30 and packed it in as things had slowed significantly… I think I’m hooked now tho’! However, that brings with it another new dilemma – Now I’m on the hunt for a good, fast wide angle lens! Anyone selling??!! 😉
